Caring For Oily Hair

As is the case with oily skin, you need to treat oily hair differently to other hair types. Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is vital in keeping your hair looking healthy and in good condition. This article offers advice on looking after oily hair.

Shampoo

You can use a shampoo that is specifically designed for greasy hair, but this is not actually a necessity. You can also use a shampoo that is designed for normal hair, as long as it is for frequent use. Another option is to use a shampoo that is specifically formulated for greasy roots and dry ends, as your hair may not be greasy all over. Whichever type of shampoo that you opt for, it is best to wash your hair every other day. If you shampoo your hair too often, you run the risk of stripping your hair of its natural oils. This can result in even more oil being produced to compensate for this.

Conditioner

Oily hair still needs to be conditioned to keep it soft and make it less prone to breaking and tangling. You do not need to use as much conditioner as you would for other hair types though. Unless your hair is very long, you will probably find that a coin-sized dollop of conditioner is enough. Concentrate predominantly on the ends of your hair, as your roots are unlikely to need much attention.

Styling products

Some styling products can contribute to the oiliness of your hair, especially serums. This tend to be sticky and greasy, and can easily make even normal hair appear dull and lifeless. Use styling products as sparingly as possible to avoid overloading your hair.
